Tuesday run
41:48 running with Susan. Cold, snow on the ground. So I switched back to my gore tex Solomon trail runners.
Out of curiosity I weighed the Solomon (409g) vs my old Adidas shoe (403g). Wow, no real reason to buy those Adidas again. And then my Bikilas came in at a delightful 183g. Nice, no wonder I feel lighter in Fivefingers; I am

93.4 kilos this morning which is 205.9 pounds for those of you who like archaic measurements. I won’t get a rant going but really, can anyone honestly defend the US measurement system? Of course I think we actually call it the English system but the English are switching away. So US it is. Are we the only country left who does this?

Monday
38:58 running. -1c and wet this morning. I put on toe socks and the bigger KSOs but my feet were frozen so I stopped early. Clearly I need a better solution for barefooting when it’s this cold.

Monday, taking stock
Okay, I knew it was going to be a tough weigh in this morning. We spent the weekend in London eating too much Indian food and drinking too much good wine.
So how did I do on the goals from last week? My goals were: Run twice
Two sit-ups
Two push-ups
Drop to 92 kilos
Not too terrible…. except for the weight. Wow, I weighed in north of 94 kilos this morning which places me about as...

Friday old school run
It was 1C when I set out this morning. The thought of cold feet was daunting so I set aside my Bikilas and donned an old pair of Adidas running shoes. wow, running with shoes is no fun! Clomp clomp clomp.
I wasn’t fast, I wasn’t quiet. But I managed 53:00 minutes.

Friday, uh oh
93.6 this morning, the weight is creeping up. I had a reasonable breakfast yesterday. I had nem and potage pekinois for lunch. I ate a handful of peanuts* for a snack and then for dinner (Thanksgiving Dinner!) we wound up eating at Paris’ only vegetarian Italian restaurant so I had a pizza. Not terribly bad for me and I did walk for roughly 30 minutes. So where is all this weight coming...

Wednesday, not a good day
Wow, 93,5 kilos this morning. That’s not good. I know from past history that weight goes up during the darker months. I attribute this to my body slowing down, hibernating, putting on fat for winter slumber.
But what I think it really is… I really do crave comfort food more than usual during the cold and dark months. And because it’s cold and dark I eat the comfort food. And the...

Tuesday update
92.9 kilos this morning, guess the pizza for lunch yesterday wasn’t a great choice. On the plus side I ran for 52 minutes this morning. I rarely listen to music while I run. I prefer to zone out, get into a groove, get outside my own head. But this morning I didn’t want to do that. I rocked out to my favorite music and of course as a result I ran a lot faster than I normally do. One of...

Monday goal-setting
It’s time to set goals for the week. With travel plans ahead it’s always tough to workout and to lose weight. But this week should be simple enough:
A. 3 workouts including at least 2 runs of an hour each
B. 2 pushups and 2 situps workouts this week
C. Hit and stay at 92 kilos. This is a drop of 1.2 kilos and will be the hardest part.

Monday, again
93.1 kilos this morning. I was supposed to go running. Lately though I’ve been waking up at 3 am, can’t sleep so I read for 20 minutes or so before sleeping again. This second sleep isn’t refreshing though. It’s the zombie-like sleep of jet lag. The feel of wanting to sleep all day. Maybe this is what hibernating feels like. So I am missing a real workout today.

Sunday
Weight at 93.2 kilos. After running 14.5 km yesterday. That’s fair.
Oh, and Tumblr definitely had an outage yesterday. And the upload of photos still has an interesting bug. If you post a photo, it failed yesterday during the outage. And somehow trying to post photos continued to fail. The error was “cannot post as you don’t have an internet connection” or something along...

Ah, Saturday
Finally the weekend. And everyone knows what happens on the weekend, right? Long run!!
That’s right, instead of sleeping in, lounging around in PJs and playing Kinect later on we are going to strap on shoes and get out there for ~9 miles. Which isn’t terribly long but is certainly long enough to qualify.
Friday, thankfully
92.4 kilos this morning. My right Achilles tendon is very tight so I skipped running. I will get 40 minutes o walking in though. Long run tomorrow I think.
It's Thursday
Which means the longest day of the week. Today started poorly at weigh-in, 92.8 kilos. Apparently my dinner of echine de cochon and potatoes gratin wasn’t as slimming as one could hope.
I did sit-ups this morning, good. Not much else though. My legs are sore from the squats on Tuesday so clearly more squats are called for in the coming weeks.

Cold Wednesday
1C as I went out the door. 92.2 kilos at weigh in. Today I ran down the Champs Elysee, then cut over to the Seine, back to the Eiffel Tower and around the Champs de Mars. 56:02 total time including pullups at the Trocadero playground.
Bikilas definitely handle the cold better than KSOs. My feet did okay, a bit cold buy not the brutal deep ache I had last winter. Given it’s been a very mild...
Tuesday
91.9 kilos today, the wild weight fluctuations continue.
Walking to kid’s school and then partway to my office today (metro for the other part). My calves and heals are tight from running yesterday so this will stretch them out nicely. Should be about 40 minutes of walking total.

Running on a Monday morning
52:15 this morning. I ran along the river and then twice around the Champs de Mars. Dry this morning which is nice although there were squishy muddy parts at time. Legs felt good, body was okay except I could feel the extra weight sloshing around.
It’s about a month until we go on ski holiday. Last year we were in a killer ship cycle so I wasn’t working out, was eating poorly,...

Monday
93.5 kilos, a 1.5 kilo gain from yesterday. I expected that since I felt dehydrated. But wow, you can actually feel a weight gain like that.
It’s 6:30 and I am up and heading out the door for a run. So that is one positive step this week.
Not a good start
92 kilos at weigh in this morning. But we were out late last night for a friend’s birthday. As a result no workout today. Not a great start at all.
But tomorrow the alarm is set and I will lay out running gear in advance. I find that having clothes or gear ready removes a mental block to moving in the morning.
Customer support
One of the most important things about a blogging tool or service is how well the customer support works. This consists of two key items:
Simple help or customer forums so you can fix the issue by yourself
Fast, efficient, intelligent support when the first option fails
I sent email today to Tumblr support as the online help didn’t have information for the issue I am seeing (themes or at...
Kickoff
I spent some time thinking about what I should write about. I travel a lot and I live in Paris so those are good topics. But I already write about that at www.bricin.net. So what else do I do? The answer is that I am usually training for some event or another. I ran the Dublin Marathon in late October. I am now entering my normal winter sloth time, a time to get fat, pork out, and generally get...

– Mail To links go directly to GMAIL - Google Chrome Help
If like many people you are using GMail as your personal emailer, here is a way to make mailto links work in Windows 7.
Note: I use a custom domain on GMail and the link doesn’t working pointing to myDomain.net. But setting this to...
Starting the adventure: one week with Tumblr
I use Facebook. I use Twitter. I also run a WordPress blog. Each has strengths, weaknesses, features I miss. For the next week I have decided to try out Tumblr, the new Internet darling. No Facebook posting, no tweets, no WordPress. Just me and Tumblr.
