Working with Support
I filed an issue with Support about Markdown syntax. This post is a
follow-up to help diagnose the issue. The ticket number is 151951.
What I will be writing about today is
* Resolutions
* What I will tackle in January
* Diet and fitness
(there should be three items in a list above)
This list should be numerically formatted
But it failed last time
It failed with both the syntax wrapping...
2011 Resolution Prep (again)
New Year’s Eve is coming which means it’s time for resolutions. And
this is a big year for them since we’re moving back to the US after
three years living in Europe. This will mean different habits both
good and bad.
The things I am reading right now that are influencing my plans are
* Zen Habits’ blog about changing a habit or setting a positive new habit
* Tim...

Dinner
Roast pork. We cooked this yesterday but reheated it in a steamer today and it was fantastic. Leftover mashed potatoes (oops) and some steamed green beans. Glass of white wine (2x oops) and that’s about it.
I should be losing weight, right? Five or six hours of telemark skiing has to count for something.
Thursday morning update
Okay, totally given up on photos of food. It just doesn’t work. It’s awkward and weird and while I always have a camera handy it doesn’t work to snap a photo at that moment. Maybe that’s a habit I need to work at. Also we’re on vacation. Which means I am trying to relax, take it easy. This past year was stressful at work and I didn’t work out much. This end of...
Lunch day 2 at Saas Fee
Delicious gulasch with a bowl of salad. The salad was all carrots, cabbage, beans, and pepitas. I skipped the beer and had a coke and a coffee. I think I nailed this lunch. Now if they would just offer water in Swiss ski places we’d all be happier and healthier.

Breakfast in Saas Fee
Cup of coffee with a splash of milk. Small note that Swiss milk does taste better than French milk. Avoid the UHT stuff; if milk can be made unfriendly to the critters that spoil it, imagine what it does to people. A banana (does that count as fruit in the Ferriss diet? Unclear), and two hard-boiled eggs.
And muesli. Good solid Swiss muesli. Consistency of sawdust and wood chips but I love this...

Diet is wrecked
Okay, the diet plans are wrecked. No photos of food. Not sticking to the Tim Ferriss diet either. I am trying pieces of the latter but it’s tough in a Swiss ski town where potato is the main food source and something like a lentil is exotic.
Dinner last night was roast pork with veggies and potatoes and sauteed mushrooms on the side.

Dinner Thursday night
Okay, I am completely blowing my habit of taking photos of my food. Do you know why? Because it’s odd to take a photo of your food when you eat with other people. There is a weird feeling of “what are you doing” or “do you ever do anything without that phone”? Socially it’s just odd.
So I missed taking a photo of the events on Thursday night. It was going to be...
Lunch today
Forgot the picture. But I had a lovely pan-seared foie gras followed by a steak + fries. Great stuff with the wine but my diet is hosed.

Tim Ferriss' new book →
Just bought the new Tim Ferriss book. This is the guy who got rich selling a book about only working four hours per week. Now he is applying the same principles to fitness and health. Does it work? I don’t know, I am still reading the book. But it is serendipitous that the book was launched just in time for me to start my 30 day trial. So far I have read
* take a “before” photo,...

Cold run
41:27 this morning. Cold, -3 with a wind blowing. Felt good to get out, ran down the Champs Élysées.
Finished with 25 pushups.

Not good, not good
95 kilos this morning, totally the wrong direction. Could this have anything to do with not working out, job stress, jet lag, December eating*, and just generally being slothful? Resounding yes.
(*)December eating is this lovely pattern I have and suspect most people do. It’s dark and cold. And my body craves comfort food. Fat. Salt. Protein. my weight always spikes in December. I wonder...
Picking a habit →
I enjoy this blog, I find it calming and often has good advice. This post had me think about what my bad habits are. Among them I can include skipping exercise, eating too much and often the wrong types of food, too many social evenings with alcoholic beverages, and staying up too late which hurts the exercise regimen. There are probably other bad habits but those are for a different blog...

Good online training app?
Once upon a time I wrote my very own training web site. In fact I wrote it twice. But since I work for a living I never have time to add all the feature I want. And the when I bought an iPhone I wanted an app too. And now I have a WinPhone 7 and I want an app for that.
So what are the best training site/apps out there?

Returning to civilization
I’m at the airport right now. Which means my business trip is almost over. One more flight to go.
Fitness suffered this week. I didn’t run once. I did precisely zero sit-ups and zero pushups. I drank beer and wine, ate steaks, and had more pizza than I should have. The round-o-meter is definitely ithe red zone. I feel fat. And I wobble when I stand up which means my weight/quad ratio...
Saturday=skiday
Planning on taking some turns at Crystal Mountain today. Legs aren’t ready, belly is too big. But hey, it’s skiing.

Friday already???
No workouts since running in Paris on Tuesday. Belt let out a notch yesterday which tells me the American food is getting to me.
Plan is to ski this weekend.
