Even the good stars can fall from grace and falter

Zurich Movie Resources

Having recently moved to Zurich and not speaking German very well yet we were confused about how going to see a movie. Here is the information we’ve pulled together so far. Please use the comments to add or suggest more information

Online Links

  • 20 Minuten is a daily free paper in Zurich. The movie listings for Zurich are here.
  • Most of 20 Minuten’s information appears to come from kulturinfo.ch.
  • Cineman. Great sites with lots of reviews and is in English which is a plus for some of us.

Subtitles?

After the title of the film you will often see something like "E/d/f". The capital letter tells you the soundtrack language, in this case English. The d/f tells you the letters for the subtitles, in this case German (d) and French (f).

Another tag is Ov, as in "Ov/d/f". This stands for "Original Version".

Ratings

Ratings are not always listed on films in Zurich as they are in the U.S. 20 Minuten skips several, kulturinfo tends to list more. One person has pointed out that ratings tend to be a bit different than in the U.S. In the U.S a film will tend to get rated as PG-13 or R for nudity but violence is okay. The opposite is usually true here; a little skin is fine, violence not so much. My suggestion: when in doubt, read a review.

  • K: kinder. Usually followed by a suggested year, e.g. k/10
  • J: jugen (jungen?): youth. Sometimes followed by a year, e.g. j/14
  • E: Erwachsen(?), adult-only.
