So much to write about... we are moving to Paris soon. I just finished a huge ride in the Alps. We are on holiday enjoying the sunshine in Zurich now, but I will start writing again soon, really.

Small update today to fix up the permalinks. Mike was chiding me about the ugly /?p=123 style links. Here is the challenge though -- apparently you need to run with an .htaccess file. But this only works on Apache and not with Windows IIS. I don't have a solution to make the URL completely pretty yet but at least /index.php/name-of-post is prettier than it was. This type of glitch is precisely the sort of thing that leads me closer to converting my home server to Linux. We installed Ubuntu on an old laptop and it just works very well. There is a ton of great software out there. If I could get iTunes running on Linux I would convert more of the family. I need to get around to writing a post about moving from nothing but Windows for the last 10 years to trying out Ubuntu. Summary = it's really a solid OS. I also updated my ping system. Mike's new blog is getting hits already. Of course it would be nice if I started getting relevant ads from my service:-)

I blame myself really. Years ago I should have spent the time really learning CSS. But I didn't. So now when I want something simple, something really simple like changing the font and layout of my blog, it's a long process of trial and error. I managed to change the font and get the content section wider. I have not as yet figured out how to make the right side shift over some.

Development Blog › WordPress 2.1 Ella I did manage to do something while struggling to sleep... I upgraded to WordPress 2.1. They do such a nice job with blogging software. It would be nice if they'd add some wiki features so I didn't need to run MediaWiki too. One single, easy upgrade and shared use of theming would be nice. One of the things on my To Do list is to learn PHP sooner or later so I can edit some of these pages better.

I found that WordPress does allow for posting via email. I don't have that enabled as yet, but I will figure that out shortly. I also managed to connect to the PHP stuff via VS 2005 and incorporated all of this into my ASP.NET site. I don't yet understand how to merge the two. I want to do that because I want to use all of my ASP.NET code for posting exercise info but I like the blog features of WordPress. If anyone happens to find online resources for this, let me know. Next up will be including ads. I am having trouble finding a good ad provider. Kanoodle is the current site provider but right now I am not thrilled with the relevance of the ads. At some point this year Microsoft is supposed to come out with AdCenter but that has been rumored for a long time now.

This is my first post with WordPress installed on bricin.net. I don't, as yet, know if this will work out. So far it's easier than DotNetNuke. The downside of course is this is all based on PHP and java script. My knowledge there is terribly limited. I will need to figure out how to get the exercise site pumping data into this system. Weird.
