Great quote.
“Moderate giftedness has been made worthless by the printing press and radio and television and satellites and all that. A moderately gifted person who would have been a community treasure a thousand years ago has to give up, has to go into some other line of work, since modern communications put him or her into daily competition with nothing but world’s champions.”
Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., novelist (1922-2007)
As a long time project planner and manager I laughed out loud at this one. No matter the project we always think we’re smarter/better/more funded/luckier/etc than whoever did it last time.
“You’ll get back an answer that sounds hideously long, and clearly reflects no understanding of the special reasons why this particular task will take less time. This answer is true. Deal with it.”
Truly wise words.
I guess the corollary would be that if people around you are chronically depressed maybe *you’re* the asshole.

As the sad news continues out of Japan even as cleanup is still going on in New Zealand and I am sure there are other catastrophes I am unaware of I am focused on how lucky I am. I know the universe can shift very quickly so I will enjoy every moment I am able to.
